KIDSHAMMER AT THE 2024 NOVA OPEN: Labor Day Weekend, August 31-September 1
Kidshammer is returning to the NOVA Open for a sixth year, and this year adds Warhammer 40,000 to the fun. We are excited to remain part of the biggest tabletop gaming convention on the east coast!
SPECIAL NOTE: With the announcement of a new edition of Age of Sigmar being launched in the summer of 2024, Kidshammer is looking into the format of its Age of Sigmar events at the NOVA Open and will provide updated information after more details of the new edition are available. Kidshammer intends to use the new edition at its 2024 NOVA Open events. The Kidshammer Warhammer 40,000 Learn to Play event will use the Combat Patrol ruleset from 10th edition Warhammer 40,000 rulebook.
Here are the descriptions of the three Kidshammer events at the 2024 NOVA Open (plus two youth D&D adventures!)
Youth D&D: The Bellow Below - A Youth D&D Adventure
Friday, August 30, 9am - 1 pm (morning)
In the town of Malrenberg, the citizens have been troubled by dark dreams of endless tunnels and a seething rage in the dark. The citizens suspect the cause of the dreams hides in the town's sewers, but none can say what is causing them or why they are being inflicted on the town. The town leaders seek adventures to track down and deal with the source of these nightmares. For a reward, of course! Do you dare answer the call? This is D&D 5e adventure for kids aged 10-15 years old with some experience playing D&D. Characters of 5th level will be pre-generated and available for selection on the day of the adventure. The adventure will be led by dad and veteran DM, Steve D.
Youth D&D: The Serpent's Stone - A Youth D&D Adventure
Friday, August 30 (afternoon)
Veteran DM and dad, Steve D., will lead a group of intrepid adventures on a mission to reclaim a highly-sought after piece of jewelry lost within a cursed temple of a Serpent goddess. This is an event for kids aged 10-15, who have some experience playing 5e D&D. Pre-made characters at level 4 will be provided for players to choose from.
Kidshammer: Learn to Play AoS
Saturday, August 31 (morning-afternoon)
Kidshammer is an introduction to tabletop miniature gaming, set in Games Workshop’s popular Age of Sigmar (AoS) fantasy setting. The event will provide open gaming and coaching for kids aged 8-15, who either are experienced in the game or completely new to the game. Coaches will be on-hand to teach the game or to improve gaming skills. The event is designed for 1500-point armies, and loaner armies are available upon request. This is a great opportunity to learn the game or to practice for the Age of Sigmar Youngblood Tournament on Sunday. Loaner armies will be available upon request for new players!
Kidshammer: Age of Sigmar Youngbloods Friendly Tournament
Sunday, September 1 (morning-afternoon)
This event offers the opportunity for Youngbloods (kids aged 10-15 years old) to participate in a friendly, three-round tournament for Age of Sigmar. The tournament is designed to be competitive, but not cut throat. Players should bring their best lists, but they should also keep in mind that the goal is for everyone to enjoy the experience – even less competitive players!

Sunday, September 1 (morning-afternoon)
Kidshammer is an introduction to tabletop miniature gaming, set in Games Workshop’s popular Warhammer 40,000 sci-fi setting. If your child is interested in joining us at the NOVA Open, sign up now! Space is limited, and it may not be possible to walk on on the day of the event this year. Click HERE to go to the Tabletop Events website to register for Kidshammer events.
When you arrive at the Tabletop Events website, select "Conventions" from the drop down menu. In the "Enter convention name or location" search bar, type in "NOVA Open" and click SEARCH. Click on NOVA Open and click on the "Buy Badges" button under Registration. Every one who enters the convention, adult or child, needs a badge for each day they are there. So purchase a badge for your child for each day of attendance, and one for any adults accompanying the child. Badges are $26 per day or $67 for the entire convention (Wednesday through Sunday) for adults. Note that a Youth Convention pass for the entire weekend is also available for $20 for kids 15 and under!
After you buy the badges, go back and click the "Buy Tickets" button under Registration. Type in "Kidshammer" or "Youth D&D" in the "Search by keyword or event number" search field and hit search. Next click on the event desired. You will need to purchase a ticket for each child participating in an event. Accompanying adults do NOT have to buy a ticket (but do need to purchase a convention badge for the day of the event or for the entire convention).
