KIDSHAMMER AT THE 2024 NOVA OPEN: Labor Day Weekend, August 31-September 1
Kidshammer is returning to the NOVA Open for a sixth year, and this year adds Warhammer 40,000 to the fun. We are excited to remain part of the biggest tabletop gaming convention on the east coast!
SPECIAL NOTE: With the announcement of a new edition of Age of Sigmar being launched in the summer of 2024, Kidshammer will be using the new 4th edition rules for Age of Sigmar at the NOVA Open.
The format of the Kidshammer Learn to Play and Youth Tournament will remain the same this year as it has been in past years. It is not using the new Spearhead format in 2024, although it will be looked at for use in future years.
Although it is a challenge to adapt to a new edition of the rules so close to the NOVA Open, Kidshammer will provide more details and clarifications as soon as the edition is released and all information is available about the rules and points for play.

Here are the descriptions of the three Kidshammer events at the 2024 NOVA Open (plus two youth D&D adventures!)
Youth D&D: The Bellow Below - A Youth D&D Adventure
Friday, August 30, 9am - 1 pm (morning)
In the town of Malrenberg, the citizens have been troubled by dark dreams of endless tunnels and a seething rage in the dark. The citizens suspect the cause of the dreams hides in the town's sewers, but none can say what is causing them or why they are being inflicted on the town. The town leaders seek adventures to track down and deal with the source of these nightmares. For a reward, of course! Do you dare answer the call? This is D&D 5e adventure for kids aged 10-15 years old with some experience playing D&D. Characters of 5th level will be pre-generated and available for selection on the day of the adventure. The adventure will be led by dad and veteran DM, Steve D.
Youth D&D: The Serpent's Stone - A Youth D&D Adventure
Friday, August 30 (afternoon)
Veteran DM and dad, Steve D., will lead a group of intrepid adventures on a mission to reclaim a highly-sought after piece of jewelry lost within a cursed temple of a Serpent goddess. This is an event for kids aged 10-15, who have some experience playing 5e D&D. Pre-made characters at level 4 will be provided for players to choose from.
Kidshammer: Learn to Play AoS
Saturday, August 31 (morning-afternoon)
Kidshammer is an introduction to tabletop miniature gaming, set in Games Workshop’s popular Age of Sigmar (AoS) fantasy setting. The event will provide open gaming and coaching for kids aged 8-15, who either are experienced in the game or completely new to the game. Coaches will be on-hand to teach the game or to improve gaming skills. This is a great opportunity to learn the game or to practice for the Age of Sigmar Youth Friendly Tournament on Sunday.
Kidshammer: Age of Sigmar Youth Friendly Tournament
Sunday, September 1 (morning-afternoon)
This event offers the opportunity for Youngbloods (kids aged 8-15 years old) to participate in a friendly, three-round tournament. The tournament is designed to be competitive, but not cut throat. Players should bring their best lists, but they should also keep in mind that the goal is for everyone to enjoy the experience – even less competitive players! The event is designed for 1500-point armies using rules and missions from the most current edition of Age of Sigmar.
Kidshammer: Warhammer 40,000 Youth Friendly Tournament
Sunday, September 1 (morning-afternoon)
NOVA Open is excited to extend Kidshammer to Warhammer 40,000 and the grim darkness of the far future! The Warhammer 40,000 Youth Friendly Tournament is a great step into tabletop miniature gaming set in Games Workshop’s popular Warhammer 40,000 sci-fi setting. The event will provide a friendly gaming environment for beginner and experienced players aged 8-15. The event will be a three-round tournament using the Combat Patrol ruleset and missions.
